Borman's trip to the Federal Republic was part of a European tour by Borman at the direction of President Nixon. In Bonn, on February 11, Borman met with chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger and Professor Herman Oberth at lunch and afterwards met with Scientific Affairs Minister Gerhard Stolenberg. An evening reception was hosted by the West German Air and Space Institute. On February 12, Borman visited West Berlin. Photographs show Borman's arrivals; press conferences; meetings with German dignitaries; and a walking tour in West Berlin. The album was received by NASA from the Federal republic of Germany and was transferred to NARA from the NASA Historian, Office of the Administrator.

Frank Borman, U.S. Astronaut who led the Apollo 8 lunar orbit mission and Chief Executive Officer of Eastern Airlines from 1975-1986, was born in Gary, Indiana, March 14, 1928. Raised in Tucson, Arizona, where he learned to fly at age 15, Borman attended U.S. Military Academy, West Point and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950, thus beginning a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force.
